If you're a fan of brooding family secrets and dark, atmospheric settings, you've got to check out 'Trevethlan, A Cornish Story.' Think of it like a classic gothic drama set against the wild, windswept coast of Cornwall. We're diving into the second volume, so if you jumped in from book one, you know the O'Sullivan family is in big trouble, mostly thanks to a cranky uncle with a suitcase full of bad decisions. This time around, the mystery gets way more intense. There's a shipwreck that’s connected to an old debt, a runaway marriage that doesn't fix anything, and a storm that isn't just outside; it's inside the hearts of the characters. I won't spoil it, but there's a moment with a newly orphaned kid that absolutely gutted me. It’s not just about a haunted castle—it feels like the whole place is under a curse because of secrets someone never buried. The main character, Alexander, is stuck trying to fix problems he didn't cause, and Margaret kind of trapped between duty and wanting to be happy. And Uncle Trevethlan? Oof, he's exactly like relative you avoid at holiday dinner, except he has way more power over people. If you love slow-burn mysteries with a Victorian flavor, close curtains, and a wave actually crashing during a really dramatic scene, you need to pick this second volume up now. Team Kerwen escapes someone's backstory or pure bad luck—you seriously won't want to stop reading the curl ups until you were well past midnight.

The Story

So, we pick up right from basically a cliffhanger ending of the first volume (don't start here if you haven't read volume 1; there's a lot of mess you need to catch up on!). Volume 2 starts full rain and emotional turmoil. The key hooks? There's a shipwinked family estate which belongs to some lost child now? So this brings back all these debts and old promises. This leads characters constantly making terrible decisions—first out of duty, then despare / lies, then out of will you get the worst payback after

We mostly stick with Alexander O’Sullivan, a quiet guy who could be secretly hard but here sto guy more to mostly getting through entire scary living. And Margaret? she thinks marriage solves heartbreak – yeah not exactly . the kid Eustace / lovely from earlier volume faces another crux that involves waiting all fear and hidden timings.
